Enemy Aliens

  • Yackandandah Community Centre 29 High Street Yackandandah, VIC, 3749 Australia (map)

In a special presentation for Indigo U3A at the Yackandandah Community Centre, Dr Dirk Spennemann will speak about: “Enemy Aliens: the largest incarceration of Australian residents in our country’s history”.

Dr Spennemann is an Associate Professor of Cultural Heritage Management at Charles Sturt University and is also a Research Associate at the Micronesian Area Research Center, University of Guam.

He has had a long association with the Indo-Pacific region and is internationally recognised for his work in Micronesian history and heritage.

Thousands of Australian residents had their lives turned upside down when they were sent to World War II Internment Camps. Internees were mostly ‘enemy aliens’ from countries at war with Australia and were interned based solely on their nationality, even if they had done no wrong.

NOTE: All welcome. You do not have to be a member of U3A to attend this event.
