Yack resident, Gerry Engwerda has a host of information and knowledge to share, his briefings examine current affairs, what is happening in the world and how that might impact on us.
His free, in-person sessions at Yackandandah Community Centre are informative and entertaining.
We are kicking off the new year activities with another presentation by our popular presenter, Gerry Engwerda
Gerry's topic will be Remaking China and will be held in the Centre at 2:00 pm on Friday 4 February.
China is very much in the news of late, but we do not hear a lot about what life is like in China itself. What do ordinary people think and how are they adjusting to the very profound and sudden changes as it transitions from rural to urban living, from a youthful to an ageing demographic and increasingly one where money is starting to create social division and tension? Will China become more inward looking as it refocuses from an export-based economy to one supplying a growing affluent domestic market? What does Xi mean by "common prosperity" and what do these changes mean for China's future, for the Chinese themselves and our dealings with them?
Put this event in your diary and let your friends know about this interesting topic.
